That body GTO is my favorite. So sexy. Nice real color as well. Is that the car you'll be doing a story on?

Post will be more about the owner than the car. Just thought it was a cool picture to throw up.

The wife won a ‘65 Goat from a local radio station back in 1996. True story. Local station east of Toronto was giving away a ‘65 GTO ragtop. Radio station was known as “Good Time Oldies”, thus the tie in to “GTO”. The contest was co-sponsored by 10 local IGA grocery stores. Each week they would parade the car around a grocery store, and you had to enter the draw for the car at that store. If they drew your name at the end of he week, your name went into the final draw for the car. My wife heard on the radio where the car would be, so I drove over on the following Saturday and there it was. All covered with sponsor stickers. I entered her name instead of mine, and sure enough, a week few days later we get a call from that IGA telling us we’d won a $50 gift certificate from IGA and that our draw ticket would go in the final draw for the car. About six months later, we get a call form the radio station and we’re told we are one of three winners and that we should be by the phone the upcoming Friday at 8am. We get up at about 7:30 that Friday, while still in bed we turn the radio on and wait for a possible phone call. In the mean time, I tell my wife she’s going to win, because there was only one prize, the car. The initial call was to make sure we’d be by the phone for a “great radio”. Sure enough, the phone rings and they ask for my wife, she’s won the car! We’re over the Moon. The next day I go over to look at it, and man it’s in rough shape. We had three kids at the time, twins at 6 months old and an 18 month old. What was were we going to do with this car? - it looked good from afar, but far from good. It needed some serious coin to bring it back to life, which we didn’t have at the time. Plus I had an older Mustang that meant alot to me - it was my first car. So we did the dog and pony with the radio station and all the IGA store owners. Never got the promotion pictures with the car, but at least we got a nice lunch at local Italian restaurant with the radio people and the IGA folks. While we were there, we were offered $10K for the car from one of the store owner. I turned him down. I contacted a local guy who was into Goats, he wanted the car but didn’t have any disposable cash at the time. [by the way he owned a really nice Oribital Orange Judge and still does]. So I contacted the guy who sold the Goat to the radio station and asked him if he wanted it back - he was a real Goat fanatic who owned five other GTO’s at the time and he wanted this one back. He told me that he sold it to the radio station for about $17K, but he knew that the car was beaten up in the year that it was being paraded around. So he offered $12K for it and we took it. [No power steering, no power brakes, and it wasn’t a real tri-power, although it had tri-power on the 389]. We put $10K towards our existing house mortgage and used the rest as mad money. At that time, it would have taken me several years to save that kind of dough. So I have no regrets about selling it. Once we payed the house off [2002], I’ve provided the wife with several nice toys to drive during the summer - current one is ‘12 Boss 302. She’s the only lady I’ve ever seen who drives a current Boss 302 daily in the summer. All I have of the GTO is a radio poster. NO RAGRETS - not even a single vowel.
